2026 Soroptimist International of Mandurah Literary Lunch
The Sebel Mandurah
11:30 – 15:00
This year, we have decided to try something different and will be joined by two local authors who write in quite distinct genres and appeal to differing age groups.    Sarah Foster lives in Perth, Western Australia, with her husband, two daughters, two cats called Ruby and Cocoa, a bearded dragon called Sunny and Luna the cavoodle.    Her latest novel, When She Was Gone, was released by Blackstone (US/Can) and HarperCollins (ANZ) in 2025, and is available in bookstores now.  Her debut suspense Come Back to Me has also been recently released in the US and is available for the first time worldwide on audio thanks to Blackstone and Bolinda.   She's passionate about writing strong, complex female characters, and she often incorporate contemporary cultural themes into her stories. Sara graduated from Curtin University in 2023 with a Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for her PhD work on maternal relationships in dystopian fiction with young adult heroines. Three of her novels have been optioned for television, and You Don’t Know Me was turned into a chart-topping podcast drama by LiSTNR.   AJ Betts is an award-winning author of six young-adult novels with humour and heart. Her books include One Song, the dystopian duology Hive and Rogue (which is widely studied in schools as a dystopian text), and Zac & Mia, (whose television adaptation won two Emmys in 2018.)    She is a highly sought-after speaker and workshop facilitator who loves talking about books, writing and creativity.  She regularly presents to schools, libraries and festivals (online and in person) and has presented in international schools in Brunei, Hong Kong, China and Singapore. She is also a registered English teacher, and holds a doctorate on the topic of Wonder.  More information on her most popular talks can be found on her website:  https://www.ajbetts.com/, or you can email her directly at:  amandajbetts@gmail.com. She has a WWCC and public liability insurance.   This event will commence at 11:30 am with registration commencing at 11:00 am.   There will be all the usual raffles and a produce table, as in previous similar events.      Cost:  $70 (including a two-course sit-down lunch, tea/coffee, juice, and a drinks voucher to enable you to enjoy a drink on arrival.   Dress:  Smart Casual   Click on Get Tickets to reserve your seat.   If you are experiencing difficulty in booking, or need more information, don't hesitate to get in touch with Liz Hobbs at 9carrow@gmail.com or 0438 731 659 (m).   We look forward to seeing you on the day.

2026 International Women's Day Lunch - CLOSED FOR BOOKINGS
The Sebel Mandurah

The International Women’s Day theme for 2026 is “#Give To Gain”.  Give to Gain emphasises the power of reciprocity and support.  When people, organisations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase.  Giving is not a subtraction, it's international multiplication.  When women thrive, we all rise. This year's two guest speakers will share personal stories that link to this year's IWD theme at our 2026 International Women's Day lunch. Sonia Nolan, Executive Manager - Marketing, Fundraising and Partnerships, Good Sammy Enterprises:   Sonia brings more than 25 years’ experience in leadership, strategic communications, marketing, community investment and governance across the for-purpose, corporate and government sectors. Her career spans iconic organisations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Alcoa, The University of Western Australia (Centre for Social Impact, and Energy and Minerals Initiative) and running her own communications and social change consultancy.  Sonia is passionate about community connection and in her spare time produces an independent podcast amplifying Western Australians making our communities better, and she enjoys precious family time with her husband and two adult children. Kelly Hinder, CEO, Bridge Builders:  Kelly has over two decades of experience in the charitable sector.  She is dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of families and children in need. As the CEO of Bridge Builders, Kelly leads with heart and purpose, shining a light on local grassroots charities that quietly do extraordinary work in our communities. One of Bridge Builders' greatest strengths is our people. We have a talented and dedicated team of four staff and 15 volunteers, including our Board, who work to achieve our vision of a community in which everyone in the Mandurah and Bindjareb region have pathways to health and opportunity so they can participate in and contribute to all aspects of life. Every day our people are helping to effect positive change to the lives of hundreds of people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. WA Region will be holding their September meeting at The Sebel Mandurah on Saturday 17 September 2022 commencing at 10:00 am.  This will include a book launch by SI Mandurah member, Regine Andersen - "Stumbling Blocks OR Stepping Stones".  Tea, coffee, and light morning tea will be served. Immediately following this event, commencing at 12:30 pm, will be the Soroptimist International of Mandurah club's 10th Birthday Celebrations.  This will take the form of a three-course sit-down lunch and special address by the Hon Dr Cheryl Davenport AM, a former WA Labor politician and the architect of Australia's FIRST comprehensive Abortion Law Reform.  She was instrumental in removing the anachronistic abortion laws from the WA Criminal Code through the success of her Private Member's Bill.  Dr Davenport is also the current Patron of OVIS Community Services, Mandurah.  She will talk to us about her journey as a politician and her current activities, particularly in relation to domestic violence. There will be no raffles on this occasion, but we do request people to bring along small stationery items such as pens, pencils, whiteboard markers, glue sticks, etc that can be used when preparing our back-to-school packs to be distributed to schools in the Peel region, OVIS Community Services and to Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.  These gifts will assist more disadvantaged students in our community as they return to school in 2023. Please note that members who will be attending the WA Region meeting only must register online by selecting a WA Region Meeting Only ticket type which is free of charge.   All members who intend to stay for both the WA Region Meeting and the SI Mandurah 10th Birthday Celebration lunch will need to purchase a WA Region Meeting and SI Mandurah 10th Birthday Lunch ticket at $47.50 per person.  This ticket includes a three-course sit-down lunch, tea, and coffee.
